“Home and I are such good friends.” - L.M. Montgomery, Anne of the Island
Projects Projects Projects Such has been my life since purchasing my plot. It’s true, I find my home a haven and I enjoy setting my mind and putting my hands to creative tasks around my house and property. But I confess, moving between my heavy work schedule to one home project after the other only to fly back to the grind again, well, somewhere along the way, my zest for projects lost its luster. So, I committed to myself to take a reprieve from . . . everything and to try to just simply enjoy where my journey has brought me so far. Though my To Do list is extensive, this summer I successfully set it aside . . . well, all but one of my ‘Do’s.’ When I returned home from my drive down and back up the Alcan highway, I had a load of soil dumped off. I combed my woods for felled trees and fallen branches and I leisurely constructed beds. Over the course of several weeks, when compelled, I shoveled dirt into my wheel barrow and, voila, I created the beginnings of a garden plot. Of course it'll need moose repellant, but building a fence remains on the ‘list’ for . . . another day. Old Man Winter will soon bluster through and my mind’s ruminating on autumn chores. But I've determined that aside from swapping my summer tires for winter ones, I’m keeping to my rest and relaxation trajectory. Though I am a task oriented individual, balance is my aim. For I am learning that when I allow myself a little recovery time from the demands of my life, I am more apt to stay inspired. And, instead of feeling overwhelmed by all the labor, I maintain a much happier relationship with . . . my home.
